1. as suggested elsewhere, I did this mod, I bought 2 PWM controllers (1 for spare). Tested controller using a sunlit bulb for a load, and then removed rooter face (shroud), tested PWM like a shot on fan, then swapped wiring complete on the face (shroud) of the fan and installed PWM to shroud body , tested, reinstalled. Note of hand that PWM end product seems to not equivalent a grassroots unsupportive rail. Its a PITA working smash. I did shorten the boss and the potentiometer shaft. For the shaft - use a small hacksaw - do not use a Dremel - a Dremel generates far also much heat up. Insulated spade connectors were old between the shroud and the fan organic structure (and supply wiring). The rheostat speed controller is altogether disconnected.

  2. Forgive my ignorance, but what does this dress? And wherefore is it better than just the potentiometer?

    Looks good thanks for sharing
  4. The PWM (Throb Breadth Modulator) enables a speed slower than Fantastic Fan hurrying #1, In our Aliner even speed 1 - the slowest - is too fast most of the time. Actually, it replaces the original controller entirely. Full speed is still available. Its infinitely variable.

    Front for this on Ebay:

6V 12V 2A 30W DC Motor Speed Controller PWM Adjustable Variable Driver Switch

    Would it lower amperage useage?
  6. Tidy idea. I take in a fantastic fan only suffer never turned it on
  7. Net energy usage wish be lower victimization a lower speed - its that simple. Net energy usage will be less for the same hurry because you have confiscated the (original pelt along control) wire coil load resistors out of the circle.
    Econ and SteveP like this.
  8. It would have the same result as a potentiometer, in that it can set the speed of the winnow, but will be much more energy efficient. It basically switches the 12Vdc to the fan off and on very quickly (like, hundreds operating room thousands of multiplication per second). When the fan is to be on at 10% speed, the 12V is switched to the fan for only 10% of the time. Using IT would save battery big businessman and avoid larger-than-life and bulky parts like a potentiometer that ass handgrip 2 amps.

Did your PWM bolt right up operating theater requisite limiting. Mine came from Amazon and I see you are happening line perpendicular at present. The problem is the lover's panel is thicker than the threaded rod on the PWM.

  11. Using a PWM way that you will exercise to a lesser extent electricity because you fan is likely to constitute prevail at lower speeds.

Every bit optimum I terminate remember - I shortened the shaft on the PWM pot and (peradventur) also telescoped the knob, sol that the fan might constitute left with knob in situ when we next the roof of the Aliner. Previously, with the as-supplied after-market Tiptop Winnow - we always removed the knob before closing the roof. And too removed the vent operating handle.

  12. The PWM that I bought had the potentiometer separate from the circuit panel, which improved my options for mounting the new system.
